What is salary sacrificing and how can it benefit me?

Despite the negative sounding name, salary sacrificing is in fact a financially savvy way of purchasing your new car. The way it works is very straightforward. Once we find your ideal car, it is purchased with a novated lease. This lease is then paid back directly from your salary - but it is deducted from your salary before tax is calculated, thus reducing your perceived income and in turn reducing your tax bill.

So, by "sacrificing" a portion of your salary each month towards the cost of your car you are in fact reducing your taxable income and saving yourself money. Have a look at a couple of examples to see how this works in practice.

The Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) you pay against this purchase can also be reduced by contributing to the operating costs of the vehicle with post tax income. This is called the Employee Contribution Method (ECM) and is explained in more detail in the FAQs.

Can anybody salary sacrifice?
