The Hyundai Santa Fe may not be one of the most talked about cars of 2012, but this powerful and versatile model could hold a number of surprises for people looking to lease a car in a popular market segment.
The Santa Fe is a large car that doesn’t carry the price tag usually associated with seven seaters, and different trim levels can be chosen based on the buyer’s preferences. A more high-tech and economical alternative to the likes of the Kia Sorento, revisions from 2009 onwards include new bumpers, light clusters, fog lights, grille and exhaust to bring the Santa Fe more in line with the drive towards performance styling. Both Style and Premium trims are four wheel drive and available with automatic or manual transmission.
However attractive the Santa Fe looks, this car will be judged by its capabilities, and Hyundai doesn’t disappoint. Previous engine options were amalgamated to a 194 bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine in 2010, which doesn’t produce the noise associated with a four pot diesel during normal driving. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes 10.2 seconds in automatic and 9.8 in manual, making it considerably faster than most other cars of its size, and fuel efficiency is similarly impressive at 38.2 mpg.
